Short info

BOSA™ is a modern USB digital oscilloscope intended to measure analog and digital electrical signals with a sampling rate of 2 MS/s (RTS) and up to 70 MS/s (ETS), and real 12-bit resolution on every input channel. The instrument has a complete set of engine ignition test functions. It is designed especially for automotive diagnostics purposes. The oscilloscope is available in two modifications: 2-channel (BOSA-02) and 4-channel (BOSA-04). The innovative and compact design, full galvanic isolation, and high reliability make this instrument an excellent choice in everyday work for all automotive service professionals. BOSA is a versatile tool and is not related to a particular automotive brand or vehicle model. It is an affordable solution with specialized test capabilities for all kinds of ignition systems and sensors used in modern cars. The oscilloscope also can be used by a wide range of technicians who need to measure and visualize electrical signals.

Basic features

2 and 4-channel versions

Тwo basic hardware configurations: the 2-channel version has all the capabilities needed for single or differential observation of the sensor signals and ignition. The 4-channel scope has the full set of engine tester capabilities to monitor and analyze ignition patterns in the engine.

High sampling rate

BOSA oscilloscopes are capable of fast signal measurements with sampling rate up to 2 MS/s (RTS) and 70 MS/s (ETS). In combination with input bandwidth of 1 MHz and true 12-bit resolution on every channel, the instrument displays vehicle sensor signals and engine ignition patterns with high enough details.

Full isolation

The BOSA hardware consists of two main blocks: measuring one and I/O transfer block exchanging data via USB interface. These blocks are fully galvanically separated from one another, both on the power supply and on the data lines. Thus, maximum safety has achieved when working with the scope.

Input protection

The oscilloscope inputs are protected against accidental overvoltage up to ±350 Vpp AC/DC. Reverse polarity protection between individual inputs also is provided. All this ensures a high degree of security and reliability using this device.

DSO modes

BOSA scopes have all standard operating modes built-in and can measure any electrical signal as a typical laboratory digital storage oscilloscope. They record multiple sequential screens of the measurement and thus make easy further analysis and diagnostics of the problem.

Ignition diagnostic modes

BOSA scopes have a full set of built-in engine ignition test functions. The measured pattern can be displayed in different view modes as Parade, Raster, Overlay, Single and so. Together with first-cylinder synchronization and RPM information all this makes BOSA a powerful engine tester diagnostic tool.

Hardware trigger

The trigger system is completely hardware implemented. That allows measurements of the exact moments of observable events with a high degree of precision. The trigger is independent in any of the input channels. The level is a full range. The pretrigger can be adjusted freely from 0 to 100%.

SudioBOSA software

StudioBOSA™ is a Windows software solution with a modern graphical interface and a complete set of measuring modes. It is specially designed to operate with BOSA automotive oscilloscopes. A built-in demo mode and mode-sensitive help system also are included. The software is intuitive and easy to use.

Multilingual support

The software is developed based on an idea about multilingual graphical interface and documentation. This feature makes the BOSA oscilloscope an excellent tool in professional practice by any automotive service technician in the world.

Robust design

The hardware is built into a compact and robust aluminum enclosure, ensuring protection and reliability when working in an industrial environment.

What it is used for?

BOSA oscilloscopes in sensor diagnostics.

Vehicle sensor diagnostics

BOSA scopes are an excellent choice as an everyday tool used in vehicle service maintenance. They can monitor the operation of different types of car sensors. The various measuring modes and their settings cover the entire range of frequencies and amplitudes in the sensor's output signals. Also, the ability to monitor slow variable processes with periods of a few seconds to tens of minutes and more allows, for example, real-time diagnostics of Oxygen Sensor (Lambda Probe) and Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT) to be done.

BOSA oscilloscopes in ignition observation.

Ignition observation in internal combustion engines

BOSA is a real engine tester. It differs from universal Digital Storage Oscilloscope (DSO) because it has special modes aimed to visualize the operation of the primary and secondary ignition circuits in the internal combustion engines. Due to the peculiarities in the frequency spectrum and the time distance in the cylinder ignition patterns, universal lab scopes cannot depict such types of processes with sufficient details in a form convenient for observation and further analysis. Instead of collecting a huge amount of sampling points in each measurement with a view to the possible chance to hit the important ignition events, BOSA oscilloscopes use another approach. They rely on specialized flexible algorithms developed exactly for such types of signals. Then, collected data are visualized using different view modes as Parade, Raster, Overlay or Single. That makes the ignition system diagnostics much easier and increases the further analysis quality.

BOSA oscilloscopes in vibration analysis.

Engine compression and vibration analysis

Using Pressure Transducer Sensor or Pressure Pulse Sensor the oscilloscope can test the compression in the cylinder chamber or pressure variations of the exhausted gasses. In the same way, using a Vibration Sensor frequency response of the engine can also be seen as a function of RPM. Thus, performing an overall estimation of the engine's mechanical condition. Even more, BOSA is an extremely flexible tool. With the suitable sensor transducer plugged-in into its inputs, the oscilloscope can solve virtually any task in modern car diagnostics.

BOSA oscilloscopes in general measurements.

General measurements of electrical signals

Beside the specialized ignition diagnostic modes, BOSA scopes also include all standard operating modes used in modern DSO. Laboratory signals such as sinusoidal, rectangular, triangular, sawtooth, as well as any periodic waveform can be measured. The various display and trigger settings along with StudioBOSA's intuitive and flexible user interface make this oscilloscope a reliable tool for any engineer or technician who needs to measure and visualize electrical signals.
