Short info
MG-01 is a new 3-axial digital vector magnetometer based on anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) sensor technology. With its modern and compact design, reliability and affordable price, it is the world’s first representative of a new generation of scientific instruments. The magnetometer is intended to be used in the geophysical research areas for monitoring and recording the Earth’s magnetic field. The AMR technology allows having low power consumption, low noise, high operation stability, and miniature sizes. These characteristics make MG-01 an exceptionally suitable choice for geomagnetic recording observatories and on-board satellite missions as a worthy competitor of a long-time serving classical fluxgate vector magnetometers.
Basic features
Anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) sensors
MG-01 is designed around anisotropic magnetoresistive sensor technology, ensuring high sensitivity and low noise measurements.
Completely digital design
MG-01 is a digital instrument with precise and stable operation. It combines many of the advantages of modern technology.
Precise internal temperature stabilization
A built-in precise algorithm provides automatic temperature stabilization of the sensors and most sensitive electronic components. Accuracy is 0.003 °C at 1 S/s sampling rate.
Isolated digital interface
Digital data lines between Sensor Head (SH) and Interface Module (IM) are galvanically isolated, ensuring electromagnetic noise sustainability.
USB HID implementation
MG-01 is connected to the PC as a USB Human Interface Device (HID). Therefore, no need for additional driver installation.
Windows based GUI software
StudioMG™ is a .NET application with a modern graphical interface and is designed to control the operation of the MG-01 in geomagnetic field monitoring and recording. The software is intuitive and easy to use.
Low power consumption
The compact size and modern digital design of the instrument ensure low power consumption, including the power needed for internal temperature stabilization.
Compact and robust design
The MG-01 hardware is built into compact and robust aluminum shielded enclosures.

Earth’s magnetic field monitoring and recording
The systematic study of the Earth's magnetic field is one of the most fundamental priorities of modern physics. The interest in this natural phenomenon is not only because of its indisputable importance for the life of the whole planet and the evolution of biological diversity but also in a purely scientific aspect. The regular monitoring and recording of the geomagnetic activity are of great importance. MG-01 is a scientific instrument specially developed for the needs of geophysics in the study of the geomagnetic field. The magnetometer measures all three components of the magnetic intensity vector and allows their automatic storage for further analysis. The high sensitivity and measurement precision make MG-01 an excellent tool for conducting systematic scientific monitoring and recording the processes in the Earth's magnetosphere.
Sattelite missions and space research
MG-01 is an innovative digital system for geophysical magnetic measurements. Studying Earth's magnetic field requires precise equipment retaining its measuring characteristics for a long, up to several years, even decades. The requirements for onboard space systems are even more rigorous. The harsh conditions in the outer space environment do not allow even the slightest compromise on the quality and performance of scientific equipment. The MG-01 is specially designed to perform measurements in fully automatic mode, maintaining its accuracy for a long period of time. It has a small size, low weight, low power consumption and high stability of operation. Thus, the instrument is very suitable for satellite missions in space. MG-01 is based on anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) technology. It can be a worthy competitor to the classic fluxgate magnetometer, which has become a standard in such scientific missions for decades.
